BODY TREATMENTS

frequently asked questions

  • Cleansing before your appointment is not necessary. All treatments include at least one cleanse, sometimes two, to make sure face is clean from make-up or other build up throughout the day. However, I do not remove eye make up if you would like to remove that prior to your appointment you certainly can.

  • Plan to come and have some "me time". If possible, I encourage you to turn off cell phones, leave kids at home and prepare to relax and unwind.

Please discontinue any products that contain Glycolic, Retinol, Saliyclic or any other exfoliating scrubs or products 48 hours before your appointment.

Do not wax, thread, sugar or have any hair removal services done 7 days before treatment

Services cannot be done on any open wounds, sunburned areas or if currently on accutane.

Please let me know if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Some treatments may not be safe but don't worry there are plenty that are!

  • Treatments are not meant to be painful. You may feel some tingling with some products but it should never burn. I always ask if anything feels like it's too much or intolerable to please let me know so I can remove it right away. Some may also experience some discomfort during extractions, but if you prefer to skip this step please let me know.

  • In some cases, yes. If it's been awhile since your last facial treatment it can be common to experience some breakouts. Breakouts happen at a deeper level and sometimes take up to 30 days to reach the skin's surface. Receiving a professional treatment can accelerate that process. It will be important not to pick or scratch any blemishes to avoid long term scarring.

  • It is best to plan a time when you can go home and relax afterwards

If possible avoid putting make up on, let your skin breathe and soak in all the nutrients put on your skin

Avoid harsh scrubs, retinols, glycolic, salicylic products for 48 hours, or until skin has stopped flaking (if applicable)

Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours, and then make sure you apply at least an SPF 30 and reapply every 2 hours!

No tanning beds or hair removal services for 7 days

No pools, saunas or hot tubs for 48 hours

  • Professional skincare products have been scientifically designed and tested to absorb better into the skin making them more effective and correcting.

Over the counter (OTC) products have more filler ingredients that just sit on the surface of the skin.

Medical grade products are closely monitored by the FDA and OTC products are not.

Medical grade product lines spend more money on ingredients. OTC spend more money on packaging.

Medical grade products can only be sold by licensed professionals

  • This will vary from person to person. Most people don't experience any downtime but there is always the possibility of redness or dry patches of skin. Redness usually happens immediately following the treatment and can last up to 24 hours. Dry patches or flaking usually occur 1-3 days after treatment but can be reduced by applying moisturizer. I will give you a post care sheet after your appointment to give you instructions on how to take care of your skin.

*For more advanced treatments there may be more downtime but we will discuss that after I've seen you a couple of times.

  • This is going to be different for everyone. Not only will products be different but some people prefer shorter 1, 2, 3 steps. My biggest recommendation is start simple and if/when you are ready incorporate other products. Cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen are three great products to start with. I also highly recommend talking with an Esthetician to determine what is right for your skin. Just because your friend, mom, sister, cousin, neighbor likes something, it doesn't always mean it will work for you.

  • Exfoliation is so important because it helps remove dead. dry skin that builds up on the skin's surface. It also helps your other products to be more effective. You should exfoliate at least 1-3 times a week. It is important to not over exfoliate as that can cause redness, irritation, dryness and sometimes even lead to breakouts.

For more sensitive skin types, keep in mind there are several kinds of exfoliating products out there so don't skip exfoliating just because a scrub might be too harsh.

  • The best time is the present! It is never too soon or too late to start on an at home skincare routine. The sooner you start the more it will help get you in the habit of cleansing and applying SPF. As our skin matures the products will change but since we are already in the routine it's just like brushing our teeth. I also advise many people to not wait until they see the first wrinkle or first sun spot. It is much easier to prevent than to correct.

  • Our skin cells are turning over every 28 days, which means it would be ideal to get a facial treatment every month. In some cases, some people come every two weeks to speed up results. For some monthly facials may not be feasible, so I recommend bi-monthly or even seasonal facials. Professional treatments work at a deeper level and incorporate devices or product enhancer you may not be able to use at home.

  • Esthetician- it's such a hard, weird word! But think of us like skin therapists. We are trained and licensed to analyze the skin, perform skincare treatments and recommend appropriate at home skincare products. We are not able to diagnose skin conditions, prescribe oral or topical medication, or perform surgeries on skin abnormalities.

If you have questions about who you should see please ask! I will always point you in the right direction.

Jenny is absolutely amazing! I have been getting a monthly facial with her for a few months now and I can see such a difference in my skin. At your first appointment she really takes the time to get to know you and your skin so that she is able to provide you with the best specific treatment for you. She’s extremely friendly and welcoming! I’m always excited for my next appointment and I’m so glad I found her :)
